Though the US brick-and-mortar retail sales is expected to decline 14% this year due to the COVID-19 (Corona Virus) pandemic situation, but US retail eCommerce sales is expected to increase significantly across all categories. According to a study conducted by eMarketer, US ecommerce sales growth will surge to 18.0% this year, the highest on record since the eMarketer calculating this metric in 2008.
The YoY forecasted change in % of sales generated through eCommerce for the Food & Beverage category was from 23.4% to 58.5% and for the Health, Personal Care & Beauty category was from 16.6% to 32.4%. These two categories are expected to see the overall revenue growth. The other retail eCommerce categories have also increased due to the COVID-19 (Corona Virus) pandemic situation. According to another study of eMarketer titled "US Holiday 2019 and Looking Ahead to Holiday 2020 Planning", online sales for the Holiday 2020's biggest weekends are expected to double digit growth for the retail eCommerce. The Black Friday online sales and Cyber Monday online sales are expected to increase 20% both, followed by Small Business Saturday 18% and Thanksgiving 15%.
While retailers are expected to see negative impact to in-store visits noticeably due to the COVID-19, but the retail eCommerce sales have increased significantly.
